Boys And Girls Volleyball Club

About This Boys And Girls Volleyball Club

Welcome

As a coach, I've had the opportunity to work with a wide range of players at places like the Boys & Girls Club and the YMCA, which offer fantastic environments for kids to learn and play volleyball in a fun, non-competitive setting. While these programs are great for fostering general skills and giving everyone a chance to participate, I've noticed something over the seasons: there are kids who are eager to push themselves harder, improve their abilities, and become more competitive. These players often find themselves in a bit of a challenging situation.

In recreational environments, the focus is on inclusivity, ensuring every child gets a fair chance to play, regardless of their skill level or commitment. But this can sometimes leave the more driven players feeling stagnant or frustrated, as they may not have the opportunity to truly hone their skills or compete at the level they aspire to. I've seen this firsthand with my daughter, who is a perfect example of one of these passionate and determined players. She doesn't just put in the work during the Boys & Girls Club practices; she also practices at home, spends extra time outside of scheduled sessions, and consistently pushes herself to get better. Her drive to improve and become the best volleyball player she can be is exactly what we're looking for.

It's players like her-the ones who are dedicated, hardworking, and hungry for growth-that we're here to support and challenge. I believe these athletes deserve an environment that encourages their development, gives them the tools to succeed, and fosters a competitive spirit that matches their ambition.

Alternatives

In my search to help my daughter improve her volleyball skills and find a more competitive environment, I quickly realized the options available were not as practical as I had hoped. After looking into several elite volleyball clubs, tournaments, and specialized programs, I discovered a world of high costs and logistical challenges. Not only did many of these programs require significant financial investment, but they were also located far from home, which meant extensive travel commitments on top of everything else. In the end, we realized that this route simply wasn't a viable solution for us.

Rather than giving up on the idea of a more competitive volleyball environment, I decided to explore other possibilities. I reached out to Evan here at our local Boys & Girls Club to see if there might be a way we could make this work within the community. I shared my vision of providing a space where dedicated players could train and develop their skills without the burden of exorbitant fees and long travel distances. Evan, understanding my commitment as a coach and a parent, offered to rent us the gym, trusting that we could create something meaningful.

From there, I contacted a few other coaches who have been volunteering their time at the club, and they were all eager to help. Together, we've come up with a project aimed at giving players the opportunity to experience a more focused, competitive training environment right here in our own community. The goal is to provide dedicated athletes with the chance to grow and improve without the overwhelming costs or the travel challenges that many of these other programs involve. This is something we're very excited to get started, and we can't wait to see where this journey takes us.

Outline

Although we will be utilizing the Boys & Girls Club facility, this program will differ significantly from the typical volleyball seasons you may be accustomed to. This isn't a traditional "every player gets a chance to participate" environment. Due to limited spots, not everyone will be guaranteed a spot in the clinics. We will be accepting between 20 to 24 players, ranging from 5th to 9th grade, with a preference for those who have some previous volleyball experience, such as having played in the Boys & Girls Club or YMCA programs.

Clinics will take place twice a week, for two hours each session. They will be structured, intensive, and focused on refining techniques specific to each player's age and skill level. This is not the laid-back, recreational practice you may be used to at the Boys & Girls Club. We will be implementing demanding drills and a more rigorous curriculum designed to challenge players and elevate their skills. Expect a high level of discipline and a commitment to perfecting all aspects of the game, from serving to team strategy.

This program is not for everyone-it will be challenging and demanding. Only those who are truly dedicated to improving their volleyball skills, and who are willing to put in the hard work and effort, should consider applying. If you're looking for a competitive environment that will push you to grow as a player, then this is the program for you.

Goals

Our ultimate goal is to eventually form one or two teams that are competitive enough to participate in local and regional tournaments. However, for this summer, our primary focus is to bring together a dedicated group of kids and work on developing their individual skills and team dynamics. Think of it as an extended weekend clinic, where we focus on honing the basics and building a solid foundation for future growth.

If all goes well and we see significant progress, we may look into entering a few tournaments next year, when competition season kicks off. This will, of course, require additional funds for things like uniforms, tournament entry fees, and other related costs. While the ability to compete will depend on individual financial situations, we're committed to keeping expenses as low as possible. If we have enough participants, the collective cost per player will be reduced, making it more affordable for everyone involved.

Volunteers

Everyone participating in these programs are volunteers. From the coaches to the website developers. Everyone is volunteering their time. Please be patient with us and help us as we grow together.

All our coaches have experience coaching at The Boys & Girls Club and have been vetted through the same rigorous background checks that are required by B&G Club for coaches. The website is still a skeleton of what we hope it will eventually be, but for now it does what we need to get things started. If you have any problems or suggestions, please don't hesitate to let us know.
